Radcliff Christian Church
(Disciples Of Christ)
It was with great excitement and anticipation that two dozen persons met in the Masonic Lodge Hall of Radcliff, Kentucky, on November 21, 1967, to organize a new congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Led by Rev. Robert Maphis, Minister of Valley Christian Church and Chairman of the Church Establishment committee of the Christian Church in Kentucky, and by Lynn H. Draper, Associate General Minister of Christian Church in Kentucky, the group made the decision to begin holding regular worship services the following Sunday, November 26, 1967. Rev. George A. Lollis, Minister of the First Christian Church, Bardstown and President of the Christian Church in District Eleven, Preached the first sermon.
Calling itself the "Diciples of Christ Christian Churc," the new congregation had chaplain (LTC) Robert Williams serve as guest minister for its second worship service. Chaplain and Mrs. Williams gave invaluable service and assistance to the group in the early stages of its organization.
Regular worship services were held on Sunday afternoons in the R.E.C.C. Building on Lincoln Trail Boulevard, with Discipl Ministeers from various parts of the state and Disciple Chaplains from Fort Knox serving as guest ministers.
Charter Sunday was held on Easter Sunday, April 14, 1968, and saw some72 persons gathered for worship in the cogregation's new quarters housed in the First Federal Savings and Loan Building, 402 West Lincoln Trail Boulevard. Dr. James A. Moak, General Minister of ther Christian Church in Kentucky, served as Charter Sunday Speaker. On that day 22 persons placed their memberships in the new congregation.
